Could You Use Some Rest?

Small signs tell me that I am hitting a season of burn-out, melt-down, exhaustion. I do this to myself. I push and push through putting too much on my plate and then I crash. Physically, mentally and even spiritually~ I am tired. I have been too independent and not depending upon God. It's that constant "Martha " that I battle with when I know "Mary" is what I long for.

How did I get here? Well, I am sure many of you know the answer to that question. I have too busy running in my own strength.

When we get tired~ the burdens of life weigh a little heavier. The unexpected surprises in life tend to make us fall apart. We feel overwhelmed. I was joking with a friend yesterday that I had lost my fruits. You know, the fruits of the Holy Spirit. The evidence that the Holy Spirit is piloting my life~ love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

We all know that walking with the Lord brings about these attributes of God through us. It is when we start running in our own strength and relying on self that we end up tired and frazzled.

SO what is the answer? It's right here...

For thus saith the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel; In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength: and ye would not. Isaiah 30:15

When we become overwhelmed it means we have been trying to do life on our own, trying to figure out how to make it all work. That is what the children of Israel were known for. Isaiah was telling them here that in returning back to God they would find rest. There it is ...rest. Do you need rest today? I sure do. The Holy God of Israel tells us that if we calm down and turn back to Him that we will find strength when we quietly trust Him.

God's children were a stubborn people and refused time after time to do things God's way. In the end they suffered consequences for doing it their own way.  When we are willing to return back to God~depend on Him the reward is rest~ sweet rest.
