Is there a horrible smell. Means she has a cold. Try and get the gunk out of her nostrils by wiping with a tissue. She will object to this but perservere as it will help her breathe. Put some minced garlic into the only water she drinks from and she should come good... She may be off her food too so make some porridge of sorts to ensure she still gets her calcium. Chooks love dry dog biscuits soaked in milk too. They love the mush. Some chooks are just prone to getting sick but usually if they survive the first 72 hrs will be ok if not a little sneezy...

Hope this helps.

DamarisDalinzhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05678332175939235552noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5790575783281900923.post-33010098673281248412010-01-01T16:42:41.250-06:002010-01-01T16:42:41.250-06:00Oh, Carrie, I'm so sorry to hear that one of y...Oh, Carrie, I'm so sorry to hear that one of your "girls" is sick. I was just thinking about the girls a few hours ago when I was cleaning veggies for veggies and dip. I was wishing that I could save my scraps for your girls!

I've even told my husband about "your girls" because I thought it was so cute.

Good luck and I too will say a prayer for her.

SueChic Cottage Junkhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08827880019435261865noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5790575783281900923.post-63889953019344177842010-01-01T15:35:34.147-06:002010-01-01T15:35:34.147-06:00Chickens are pretty hardy, and can survive the col...Chickens are pretty hardy, and can survive the cold well, and I agree place her in unheated garage so her body temp. can remain the same. If she's getting peeked, there is a reason? Do a search on old fashioned cures for poultry? I hope she'll be ok.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11747268325270933661noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5790575783281900923.post-70594916723472075472010-01-01T12:57:53.773-06:002010-01-01T12:57:53.773-06:00Poor Sami! Hope she's better soon.Pattyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15680733899712516437noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5790575783281900923.post-72740378594560055382010-01-01T12:00:03.246-06:002010-01-01T12:00:03.246-06:00Haven't got a clue...so sorry about your "...Haven't got a clue...so sorry about your "girl"!Camillehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07838089502798643241noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5790575783281900923.post-76016802794376658982010-01-01T11:35:00.825-06:002010-01-01T11:35:00.825-06:00Oh! I am so sorry Carrie, as a chicken farmer I wish I could help but can't, when one of my grandmother's hens would get sick, she had something in a little bottle to put in her water. I will say a prayer for her.
SueSuehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16949983164111997270noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5790575783281900923.post-60088075583848836752010-01-01T11:29:49.536-06:002010-01-01T11:29:49.536-06:00Well, I don't know what else to tell you, but ...Well, I don't know what else to tell you, but keeping her seperate from your other girls is very important. You don't want them to get sick too. Be extra diligent in cleaning out their waterer. If it's inside their coop the girls are kicking around more now and that dust(dried poop) is getting in their water.
I have Storey's Guide to Raising Chickens by Gail Damerow. It says to isolate the chicken. Observe it to see if there are any other symptoms. I wouldn't keep it in the house though. It could cause more problems in the long run. Maybe an unheated garage?
I'm sorry your chicken is sick I know how the kids and I feel about our birds and I have played nurse to a few. We have a special box in the garage for injured birds. I hope she feels better soon.Domestic Goddesshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15460796074640596194noreply@blogger.com
