How Do You Say Goodbye~ When You Never Got To Say Goodbye?

William E. Nation

William Nation, 63, lifelong resident of St. Joseph, passed away Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at his residence.

Bill was born February 3, 1948 to Albert Nation and Mary Miester in St. Joseph. In 1966, he graduated from Lafayette High School and was a veteran in the U.S. Army. He worked for Finney Concrete and A-1 Concrete Construction as a truck driver, from where he retired. Bill enjoyed spending time at Big Lake, where he enjoyed fishing. He also enjoyed artistic painting, cooking, and gardening.

Preceding him in death are his parents; two brothers, John Furgeson and Chuck Catron; and two sisters, Sharon K. Fuller and Ruth Cordonnier.

He is survived by his longtime companion of the home, Kathy Allen; one son, William (Tara) Nation-Martinez; two daughters, Carrie (Brian) Shindorf and Angela (Doug) Hall; 12 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 12 noon Thursday at Bible Baptist Temple, St. Joseph, with visitation from 10 a.m. to 12 noon Thursday at the church. Interment will be in Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth, Kan. Brother Gary Williams will be officiating.

Isaiah 41:10

King James Version (KJV)

Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

~My Heart Is Breaking~

This morning started as any other day. I jumped out of bed with my Tuesday to do list playing in my head. We had homeschool classes and I was going to try to get to our new church to paint the Nursery. Funny how you can boast of tomorrow and what you may do. Only today my to do list was set aside ~ so unimportant for at 7:00 AM I got a call from my baby brother who was at the Fire Station when he heard a call come over the radio. Only this address was an address not like any other he had heard~ for it was our Father's address. He was found this morning in his yard~ he had passed on to Glory.

Many years ago my father prayed and asked Jesus to come into his heart~ it is the only comfort that is easing this broken heart of mine.

William Ely Nation was only 63 years old. He had beautiful handwriting for a man. He loved to fish. He loved his children. He was a talented painter~ artist. He loved and had compassion on any stray animal. I knew that as long as my father was alive no one would ever hurt me and live to tell about it.  He was my Dad~ and I will have an empty whole in my heart for the rest of my days in this life. I wished I had told him goodbye. I wished I would have had the chance to hug him and tell him I loved him. I wished we could have spent the day together~just fishing.

Why do we wait until death to remember that life is short and it is oh so fragile?  Kiss your loved ones~ hold  them a little tighter~ hug your parents and tell the that you love them. Don't let things go unspoken ~mend your fences. Really do it today~ you may not have tomorrow!

I love you Dad~

Psalm 23

King James Version (KJV)

1The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
4Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
6Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

My heart aches for you right now. I know those feelings all too well. I lost my precious mother very suddenly 6 months ago at the age of 55. I will pray for God's loving arms to comfort and sustain you in this time of grief. Nothing prepares you for the loss of a loved one, but Christ will certainly carry you through these dark days.

In my thoughts and prayers,

Dearest Carrie,
I am praying for you today sweet friend. I know what it is like to lose a father and not have the chance to say goodbye. I know that your family and friends will be gathering around you to comfort and support you as you grieve together. I have always found great comfort in the words of Billy Graham who once said 'One day you will hear that Billy Graham has died. Do not believe a word of it. I will be more alive than ever before. I will have only changed my address.'
Wish I could reach out and hug you right now.

I am so very sorry. I can't even explain how I felt when I read your post. My dad passed three months ago, but I was the lucky one and got to say goodbye. He had cancer.

Your memories and pictures will be your best friends. Say goodbye now, tomorrow, at church, at the cemetary. It is okay to keep saying goodbye. It is also okay to cry. I know it is hard to fathom, but he is okay.

Again, hugs to you and your family.

Oh Carrie. Tears are streaming as I ask our Heavenly Father to wrap His sweet arms of love and mercy around you and your family this day. I am asking Him to send His Precious Holy Spirit as a Comforter. Thank God we do not mourn as the heathens who have no hope. For we know that we know that we know that all of those who have put their trust in Him will be reunited one day. And there will be no more death, and no tears. What a day that will be. A great bit hug to you my friend. And know that many, many prayers are being lifted up to heaven for you. His grace is sufficient for you Carrie. Receive it.

So sorry to hear about your dad. I have just found your site and wanted to share with you a poem my mom wrote. Praying this will be an encouragement to you.

Today’s a new beginning for your loved one on heaven’s shore,
Where he’s sitting at the Saviour’s feet complete forever more.
His voice has joined the multitude of saints around the throne.
Singing praises to the Father, Who has safely brought them home
This day will never end for him; there’s no darkness and no night.
For Jesus Christ his Saviour is the Everlasting Light.
He’ll never feel another pain, nor shed another tear.
Satan cannot tempt him there; and he’ll never doubt or fear.
His home is now a mansion fair, prepared by Jesus’ hand.
Where he’ll meet you when you join him in heaven’s glory land.

Today is a new beginning for you, here on earth.
You know the Saviour loves you and what salvation’s worth.
The next few days and weeks and months will sad and lonely seem;
And you will often think about the things that might been.
But every moment you will be in the shelter of God’s wing
Who will lovingly remind you not to worry ‘bout a thing.
For not only will He heal your heart but He’ll fill the lonely days
With a peace, joy and contentment wrought by His all-knowing ways.
Your life and testimony will draw others to the Lord
As you witness Christ as Saviour thru your life and thru your word.
©Mary Yingling (my mom)

“But I would not have you to be ignorant, Brethren, concerning them who are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also who sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.”
~ I Thessalonians 4:13-14

When life’s highway has been traveled
or you’re caught up in the air,
You’ll find the Saviour waiting,
with your dad beside Him there.

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your father. I am thankful though, that he knew the Lord and that you will see him again one day!

That was a precious tribute. I will be praying for you, dear Carrie. My brother & I just made the arrangements for my mom today ~ viewing Thursday night, burial Friday morning.

This was so different than my daddy's passing ~ his passing was so sudden, like yours, & our grief & shock were so profound. My mother suffered from Alzheimer's but in the end it was incredible, tragic, painful circulation issues w/her feet that finally turned into gang green that took her. The only "remedy" would have been amputation & she wouldn't have lived through it, anyway. Watching her suffer was agony, but her passing was sweet & easy when the time finally came ~ a precious answer to prayer.

So, my parents are happy together & I'm sure that in the Lord's grace & mercy that He allowed my Daddy to meet her at the gate & escort her to the Throne.

Love & blessings to you, Carrie.
