The Proposal at Siesta Key~A Great Summer Read

What a fun summer read~ I am enjoying this book. It grabbed my attention from the very first line.

Penny and her family live in a adorable little town called Pinecraft, Florida. I liked that the author gave a map in the front cover. It looks like a perfect place to be. Yet~ Penny has been a sheltered young woman for way to long and is busting out at the seams. A tragedy in the family taking the life of her sister in a horrific way leaves her parents smothering her to death. She just has to break free and live. This book is all about her having the courage to break free from the control and fear that her loving but over protecting parents have placed her under. Penny decides it is time for all of them to move on in healing.

She goes to work for a Bed and Breakfast and finds herself caring for a popular Mennonite singer/evangelist. He is a little arrogant and high thinking of himself. She is trying to not be smitten in the least. Only time together turns the tide and they become more than friends. The only problem is that he will be leaving soon. Will she have even more courage to follow her heart?

I really enjoyed seeing how this book deals with fear in a healthy and healing way. I was given this book in exchange for my honest review. Although this is the second book in the Amish Brides of Pinecraft~ it was not necessary for me to read the first book. Great Book!

The Proposal at Siesta Key (Avon Inspire, May 2015)
A young Amish woman, yearning for freedom, crosses paths with a handsome Mennonite celebrity in a deeply moving tale of friendship and self-discovery—the second installment in the unforgettable New York Times bestselling author’s new Amish Brides of Pinecraft series.
Penny Troyer rarely disobeys her parents. In the years since her sister’s tragic death, they’ve wanted nothing more than to keep her safe…even if it means never leaving the house.
But tonight, she’s bending the rules because Michael Knoxx, the most famous member of The Knoxx Family Singers, a traveling Mennonite Evangelical family —is scheduled to speak. Penny has heard of Michael—how he lost part of his leg in a terrible accident and uses the experience to inspire others—and knows she must meet him. So, for the first time ever, Penny stands up to her parents and goes out on her own.
Though he speaks about living life to the fullest, Michael knows he needs to take his own advice. Life on the road is grueling and Michael wants to slow down, to rest…to perhaps meet someone who sees him as a man, not just a celebrity. So when a twist of fate allows him the chance to stay a little longer in Pinecraft, Michael knows God is showing him a new path, especially when he discovers how much he and Penny Troyer have in common.
But new friendships can’t stop time. Soon, Michael’s time in Pinecraft will be over and he’ll be back on the road. Her time with Michael has brought her happiness, but will she be able to follow her heart? Or will she be faced with the one thing she’s sure she’ll never have the courage to do?

Can You Be Trusted By Other Women? Are You A Safe Haven? A Friend In Me Book Review

I am reading this book with many ah-ha moments. Women have trouble with relationships with other women. It seems like it starts the moment we are born. These relationships can just be complicated for many reasons.  I adore all the women in my life. I would be nothing without them. We need women in our lives. So how do we become a safe place for women?
Pamela Havey Lau~ shares her own story. We all have one~don't we?  As she writes what her own story looks likes she begins to explain why we are having such a hard time in our culture. She listens to what both the younger generation has to say along with the 40, 50 and 60 year old women. Let's face it ~ that generation gap between the years has a way of dividing us. We see things so different yet we all long to learn from those who have gone before us. The older I get the more I realize the wisdom of those who have gone before us is so very important. I have also learned as a mother of beautiful daughters they have much to teach and give too.
I loved this book on so many levels. It is underlined and marked with notes all over the pages. The author asks a great question. Does my life tell other women that they have a friend in me and that they are deeply loved by Almighty God? The most important thing we can tell those younger is is that we don't have it all together.  To share our story~ or failures and successes. Pamela shares that many women still live with wounds and are recovering from the hard knocks of life. Life is littered with hardships. Amen and amen!  That we need to receive comfort before we can comfort others. Amen and amen! That we need to forgive so we can be forgiven. That we need to forgive our own selves.  This book encourages women to become a safe place for other women.
I loved this book and I believe that all ladies of all ages need to read it. This is a book for such a time as this. Wow!!! Wow!!! and Wow!!!

Thank you Pamela Havey Lau~ we needed this message.

This book was given to me in exchange for my honest review. I rate it a 5+ stars.

A Friend in Me (David C. Cook, June 2015)
Young women long for relational connection with women further ahead of them on the journey. Yet, without realizing it, many of us tend to distance ourselves from those in younger generations.
Can we really have close relationships with women who have different thoughts on church, different experiences with family, and different ways of talking about God? Where do we start?
In A Friend in Me, Pam Lau shows you how to be a safe place for the younger women in your life. She offers five patterns women need to internalize and practice for initiating relationships and talking about issues such as faith, forgiveness, sexuality, and vocation. Most significantly, she reminds you that there doesn’t need to be a divide between generations of women. Together, we can have a global impact—and experience a deeper faith than we’ve ever known.
