A Fool's Folly~

Whew ~ that was a trip of a lifetime. In celebrating my husband finishing his Doctorate we decided to take an Alaskan Cruise. Oh my stars ~ was it amazing.

Did you know that Secretary of State William Seward signed a treaty to buy Alaska from Russia for 7 million dollars?  Congress thought it was a foolish mistake and the media labeled the deal as "Seward's folly" and President Andrew Johnson's "polar bear garden." Alaska was purchased in 1867 for 2 cents an acre and was laughed at as a "fool's folly." The discovery of Alaskan gold and the natural resources has contributed to our prosperity ever since.

As I stood on the deck of the beautiful "Ruby Princess"~ I could not help but hum the tune of "America the Beautiful." As we traveled out into the sea of waters and I took in all the majesty of our mighty Creator~ I was stunned beyond words. It was absolutely breathtaking. The dolphins, the whale, the cute little sea lions, the mighty eagle were all amazing. Then the purity of the mountains and glaciers~ seeing Alaska from the sea is a sight that everyone just has to see once in their lifetime.   It is just so much to describe and everything so much more than a "fool's folly."

It sort of reminds me of our current day ~ we may all have our opinions. We can even say we have our rights. We can state our opinions. Our media has and always will slant the truth to get the next big story but it does not make it truth. If we want the truth we need to go back to God's Word and read it~ study it~ hold it as our standard of truth. GOD'S WORD is alive. It has been and always will be no matter how far we go from it.

I have been a fool at times~ so have you. We all know Congress has been and the media is just as bad. However~ the greatest fool of all is the man who says there is no God. That is the biggest "fool's folly" of all. The God of the Bible is a caring and loving God who sent His son to pay for my sin and yours but He is also the Mighty and Righteous God that one day will rule the nations. When we are confused and want answers God's Word is still the truth.

Psalm 14:1 The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.

Carrie, so glad you and Brian enjoyed your first cruise. Alaska is a spectacular place and truly shows God's work. As you know, I travel a lot. Yes, I love to see and learn about new places, but there's something about experiencing what God has created that always centers me and brings me the joy of knowing Him. It happens every time I travel!

Carrie, wasn't that the most beautiful place you've ever seen!? We went 5 years ago for our 25th anniversary and renewed our vows on the ship. I had been born there, given up for adoption, and left before the big earthquake. I don't remember anything about it, so seeing it was a very emotional trip for me. The most pristine and unspoiled place I have ever seen! Glad you got to go!
